A Day Off

I took my first and needed day off today. It was delightful hanging out with a good friend.  I have known Sam since 2010.  He came to Cambodia with about $2.00 in his pocket.  Pastor Rob Cady, a Baptist missionary, helped Sam get on his feet.

Sam is a personal fitness trainer.  He trains local Cambodians in physical fitness and nutrition. Chantha Kong performed the ceremony for Sam’s and his wife, Votay’s wedding. This week Sam and Votay purchased a plot of land as an investment.  How would I describe Sam? Kind, gentle and motivated to succeed.

Today Sam and I went shopping.  He helped me negotiate a good price on some fake jewels—not an easy task. We enjoyed Sushi for lunch, then went bowling. The plan was to play three games.  Best of three wins. Sam won game one, I won games two and three.

Not wanting to leave a loser, he suggested we play the best of five games.  Okay.  I won games four and five. Old guy won 4 to 1.  In the process I even pulled my 62-year-old hamstring and still beat him (High game, 185). We drank iced Caramel Macchiatos at Starbucks and visited a returnee at his place of employment.

Now I need rest.

  1. Sounds like a full day! And exhausting… five games of bowling is a lot of work. LOL. Glad you got to spend some time with Sam. Tell him I said hello.
